The “density of matter” is a natural blindfold to our spirit, it blocks our spiritual vision and awareness just like a cloth blindfold blocks our physical eyesight.

I find it fascinating to extend this metaphor of our individual blindfold to the six billion or so inhabitants of our earth. My extension of the metaphor envisions us all wandering the face of the earth blindfolded. Naturally, since we are all blindfolded, we will be constantly bumping into things and into each other. In this metaphor, all of our errors and our suffering are produced by the natural lack of awareness that results from our blindfolds. We are all heroic for agreeing to participate in this bumping experience by agreeing to accept the blindfold we are given at our birth.

One way of looking at our purpose in life, within this metaphor, is that we are learning how to remove our blindfolds, and in so doing, helping others to remove theirs.

It might just be that learning to more fully to love and accept ourselves is the key to removing the blindfold.
