Seeing the invisible and hearing the silent
I agree with Jim, Jimi, Nimekuwa, Emilia, George, Santhan and mary moon that this is yet another wonderful Heavenletter.
Please forgive me if what I am about to write is obvious to you and therefore seems condescending or even ostentatious. Perhaps it will be of value to some as it was to me in putting it into words.
God says here: “Listen well to the silence within you. Within the silence are the answers you are seeking. You understand, I am speaking of the silent Known yet Unknown within you.”
How can we listen to silence? How can something be both "Known" and "Unknown"? I don’t think God has directly put it this way in the Heavenletters, but what is implied here is that we actually have two different sensory systems as part of our natural makeup. Of course, one is obvious: our physical eyes, ears, skin, etc. The other system is in the realm of the “heart”, it is the non-physical input from the heart described“The-Unseen-Yet-All-That-There-Is-to-See.” It is “Unseen” because it is totally invisible to our physical senses. It is “Yet-All-That-There-Is-to-See” because it is input from the “Divine Celestial” that is the source of everything both physical and non-physical. We can listen to the “silence within you” because we have non-physical “ears” by which to hear. To me, this makes the rest of this paragraph much more understandable: “It cannot be seen. It cannot be heard except as your heart hears it. It speaks volumes to you, beloveds, this silence in which all is contained.”
God, also in this letter, helps us sort out these two sensory systems and better understand how they relate to each other. “Come, sit down with Me. In this silence of Ourselves, you will know all that I know, and that is Everything, everything that matters, that is.”
We need to silence the physical world by isolating our physical senses so that we can better experience the subtle “still small voice” of our heart. It is essential to silence the physical world, at least initially, since we are so accustomed to paying 100% attention to the physical senses that the non-physical is blotted out from our awareness. I believe this is why we instinctively try to find complete privacy when we either pray earnestly or meditate. There is a kind of learning here. Once we better learn how to shut out both the physical world and our logical thoughts, we begin to remember how to attend to the non-physical input of our heart which connects us with everything that exists in both the seen and unseen universe.
Hoping that some find this useful…..Chuck
