Representing Greatness
"Serving" sometimes appears different from what we perceive is requested of us. How important to acknowledge consideration for others.... thank you for this reminder, dear Gloria.
Recently I was contracted to edit a work for a woman (I am a ghostwriter and editor). I performed my usual services and submtted the work to this client. She was horrified. "But you changed my words!" she cried.
(The client had not gone beyond eighth grade in public school and my professional eye saw that the story needed much work in order to produce a finished product that could be understood and appreciated by potential readers.)
Immediately I perceived that I was here to serve this client's needs, not to professionally edit her manuscript. I reassured her I would check for misspellings and punctuation errors, and return the work to its original form. A beautiful "rainbow" smile appeared on her face. The sun came out again.
We never know how we are asked to serve.
Thank you, dear Gloria, for pointing this out.
Much love,
Carol
