Sing a High Note
I haven't read too many of Letters from Heaven, but when I read the Subject was "Sing a High Note," pardon the pun, but this one struck a chord. The main focus of the letter is in not feeling sorry for yourself. Feeling sorry for yourself does impede forward motion. It prevents you from moving ahead with your life. It prevents you from enjoying even the little things. It's like being stuck in mud; the more mired and mucked down you are in your sorrow, the more you sink. As each day passes, the more you feel sorry for yourself, the lower you sink into that chasm of darkness and the light becomes dim.
Sometimes it just feels good to just let yourself sink deeper for a little while. It's often not easy to get out of this mode of thinking once you've sunk down into it.
But when you can finally look at your life objectively, you see that all of the time you've been feeling sorry for yourself is a huge waste of time. All of the "I coulda, shoulda, woulda" and "Woe is Me!" mentality is senseless, accomplishes nothing and in the end makes you more miserable.
But when you realize that feeling sorry for yourself actually makes you more frustrated, more exasperated, more down, that's when it's time to look UP to God, who gives our life focus. He is the One in control. It's not until we relinquish that tight hold we have on trying to make things OUR way, that we realize that we were never truly in control at all. HE is.
My prayer for us all is to let go of your fears, your sadness, your sorrow. Let Go and Let God!
