God means that we embrace in our hearts. He does not mean that, in order to love, we must engage in a relationship. We can embrace everyone, but that does not mean taking everyone home with us. God does not mean that we neglect ourselves in order to be a loving person.
I love the Dog Whisper on the National Geographic Channel. He is a great psychologist, and so much of what he says applies to people. He says something like this:
"A dog has to earn our trust. We don't go around showing him love without his earning it."
The Dog Whisperer loves dogs more than anyone, and dogs must know that. Yet a dog has to show great respect before he is rewarded.
